NGO Forum hits out at PM on GST

 By our Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, Oct 7: Former SBI Director Anta Kalita, former B Borooah College Principal Dinesh Baishya and Sadou Asom NGO Forum member Adip Phukan have said that the faulty economic policies being adopted by Prime Minister rendra Modi will invite dark days to the country.
In a press meet organized by the NGO Forum, guest speaker Anta Kalita said: “We paid taxes earlier also. However, after the implementation of GST, small industries, small vendors and local weavers and others have been badly affected. Such people didn’t have to pay taxes earlier, but now they’ve been under the tax bracket. The most benefitted professiols in post-GST are chartered accountants. For every GST-related work one has to approach them. The Prime Minister, who likes to make people dream big, is smashing the dreams of the commoners. He demonetized old notes with the hope of making black money out. However, that move has failed utterly. The USA is a big county that has no GST. With the implementation of GST on June 30, 2017 ‘Corporate India’ has emerged in place of ‘Federal India’.  In terms of per capita income Assam’s position in the country is 28th. While elsewhere in the country people doing business over Rs 20 lakh yearly have been brought under GST regime, however in Assam the amount of yearly business for coming under GST has been reduced to Rs 10 lakh a year. Why? Doesn’t Assam fall under the one-tion one-tax formula? If good days are to come to the tion, the Prime Minister has to come to reality. The poor economy of the country has its effects on Assam as well.”
