NH-37 blocked at Sopur, Jorabat

From our Correspondent

DIMORIA, August 8: Sopur and Jorabat have turned a hellhole today after heavy rains in the area last night. Water-logging and siltation of red soil and sand right on the road made life pathetic. Irked at the sight, members of the Sadou Dimoria Yuva-Chatra Santha, Jagriti Mahila Samiti and the Dimoria unit of the Asom Chah Jajati Chatra Santha blocked the tiol Highway 37 at lgadera in Sopur and Jorabat.

Apart from blocking the NH-37, the people of the locality sowed paddy on the road as a mark of their protest. Hundreds of vehicles were stranded during the blockade.

The irate public blamed it on two companies, MBL and KMC, for the present plight of the road. Sadou Dimoria Yuva-Chatra Santha general secretary Saurav Das said: “MBL is running two stone quarries in the area that leads to siltation of sand and red soil right on the road. KMC, on the other hand, stopped short of constructing drains on either side of the road, and that leads to inundation of the road whenever there is heavy rainfall.”

DCP Hemanta Kumar Das and Sopur Revenue Circle Officer Munindra th te rushed to the spot and assured the agitationists of taking action against MBL and KMC.

On the other hand, the local people of Sankardev gar in Jorabat blocked the road in protest against the dismantling of a bridge which was constructed by the local people on their own. The administration had to dismantle the bridge so as to clear the blocked water fast. The administration assured the local people of constructing the bridge afresh within 24 hours.
