NHRC for open hearing in Guwahati

GUWAHATI, April 26: The tiol Human Rights Commission (NHRC) is going to hold a two-day camp sitting/open hearing along with meeting with government officials and NGOs on May 17 and 18,  2017 at Guwahati to consider the pending cases and to discuss important human rights issues pertaining to Assam.

The meeting will provide an opportunity to the commission as well as the State Government to understand each other’s points. It will also provide an occasion to take stock of the action taken by the State government on important issues concerning human rights.

From 2013 to March 5, 2017, 1,673 cases from Assam were registered with NHRC but 372 cases of them are still pending. Rs 2,03,70,000 as monetary relief was recommended by the Commission for 36 cases in Assam.
