GUWAHATI, Aug 18: The Assam Government’s decision to offer golden handshake to 56 permanent employees of Hotel Brahmaputra, Guwahati is no music to the ears of the hotel’s 48 contractual employees. The 48 employees are set to agitate against the decision.
The Assam Tourism Development Corporation (ATDC) issued a letter on the closure of the Hotel on August 11, 2017 so as to convert it to a State Guest House.
Dispur has taken a decision to convert Hotel Brahmaputra into a State Guest House which the State feels dearth of. While one of the State Guest Houses atop Koi-Dhora Hill is used by former State Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi as his official residence, the other atop Kharguli Hill in the city – Brahmaputra State Guest House – is being used by Chief Minister Sarbanda Sonowal as his official residence. Such an arrangement has made the State feel dearth of guest houses. However, the 48 contractual employees working in Hotel Brahmaputra feel that the decision to convert the Hotel into a State Guest taken by Dispur is set to spell doom for them and their families. These workers have decided to go for an agitation on August 21, 2017 against the magement of Assam Tourism Development Corporation (ATDC) in the city to make Dispur think for their future.
