No progress in Somadhi Khetra work: Gogoi

By our Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, Sept 8: Former Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi has said that the work of the somadhi kshetra of Dr. Bhupen Hazarika is where he left it at the end of his tenure.

Paying obeisance at the Samodhi Kshetra of the balladeer at Jalukbari in the city on Friday, Gogoi said: “There has been no progress in the work of the Somadhi Khetra after the BJP coming at the helm of affairs in the State. The work is exactly where I left it at the end of my tenure.”

When mediapersons quoted Chief Minister Sarbanda Sonowal as to have said that the works of the Somadhi Kshetra would be completed in October this year, Gogoi said: “Last year also he said that he would complete the work in October. He’s apt in giving assurances. I hope he’ll translate his assurance into reality. What we did for Bhupen Hazarika is rare in India. Even when the fiscal health in the State was not sound, our government gave him a Cabinet rank so as to give him a succour when all was not well with him. I would feel better had this government med the model colleges in the State after Dr. Hazarika. The ideology of Dr Hazarika was goodwill and harmony same as that of Sankar-Madhab-Azan. They talk of ‘jati, mati and bheti’ but are now neglecting Jyotiprasad Agarwala d Bishnu Rabha. You can open a private research centre and offices after Deendayal, why should you me colleges in the State after him?” he questioned.
