Northeast tea conclave in city

GUWAHATI, Aug 18: The Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) in association with the Tea Board of India and the Directorate of Tea, Government of Assam is going to organise the North East Tea Conclave & Expo 2016 (NETCE 2016) on August 26 at Hotel Taj Vivanta here. The day long programme from 9 am to 5 pm will have three technical sessions and an iugural session, a press release said.

State Industries & Commerce minister Chandra Mohan Patowary will grace the iugural session as the chief guest.

The main focus of NETCE 2016 is specialty tea, green tea, white tea, handmade tea, organic tea etc. A tea contest will be held for Specialty Tea and the winner will be med as ‘The King’ and the runners-up will be med as ‘The Queen’ of the tea contest.

According to Sandipan Chakrabortty, Chairman, CII North East Council, the NETCE 2016 is “a unique forum” which will bring together all stakeholders – manufacturers, growers, traders from Assam, Aruchal Pradesh, Tripura, galand, Sikkim, Manipur, Mizoram and Meghalaya.

The goal is also to identify the best global models and practices, strengthen market linkages and prepare strategies for a robust tea industry in the North East in terms of productivity, marketability and sustaibility, said Bidyanda Barkakoty, Vice Chairman, Tea Board of India and Convener of the NETCE 2016, adding that the Conclave will discuss key policy interventions and find ways to improve quality, add value in terms of production, packaging, price realization and innovations, especially for specialty teas.
