GUWAHATI, Feb 2: State Transport Minister Chandra Mohan Patowary on Wednesday said that giving a specific timeline for solving the problem of traffic srls in the city is not possible for the government. Replying to a question by BJP MLA Bhabesh Kalita on traffic jam, Minister Patoway said in the Assam Assembly, “There are various reasons behind the traffic congestion in the city. We cannot actually predict when the traffic congestion occurs, it happens suddenly. So it is not possible for us to give a specific time as to when the problem would be solved.”

“As a step to avoid traffic congestion, 15-year-old city buses as well as school buses and 10-year-old share taxis have been removed from the city roads. Besides to make the traffic movement smooth, traffic police have been engaged at different points,” the Transport minister added.

Patoway further said that for smooth functioning of the traffic sigl system, the Smart City Project in collaboration with Home department has prepared a project.

He said that the metro rail project would be implemented by GMDA. “Certain changes have been made in the DPR. So the revised DPR would be sent to Centre soon for approval,” said the minister. Patowary said that the first phase of construction work will take five years for completion since the beginning construction.
