GUWAHATI, Nov 17: The BJP Assam Pradesh has said that there is nothing to be surprised at in the RGI seeking extension of deadline for publication of draft NRC.

In a statement issued to the press on Friday, party’s general secretary Dilip Saikia said: “NRC update is going on under the supervision of the Supreme Court of India. The RGI and the apex court are to fix the deadline for publication of the draft NRC. The Centre and the State Government have been extending their cooperation to the job. A sincere NRC update work is taking time, and it may need more time. It’s captain obvious. All should extend their cooperation. We appeal to the people of the State not to get confused.”

State BJP spokesperson Promod Swamy asked Madani as to how the latter came to know that the mes of around 70 lakh minorities would be dropped from the NRC in Assam. “The draft of NRC is still to be published. Even if any Indian doesn’t have his/her me figured in NRC, he/she can include the me with the submission of genuine documents. Madani’s speech sounds like that of an antitiol.”
