NRC update to rock bases of Congress, AIUDF: BJP

By our Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, August 22: The BJP Assam Pradesh has said that the foundations of the Congress and the AIUDF will be rocked in Assam when the NRC update process will be over.

In a statement issued to the press today, Assam BJP spokespersons Jayanta Mallah Baruah and Subash Dutta said: “Now the Congress is restless since its politics of mileage at the cost of the indigenous people of the State is heading for its dead-end. This is the reason why the Congress has been putting hurdles in the smooth functioning of the BJP-led government in the State by making comments against it since its inception. We deny the allegation made by CLP leader and the Leader of the Opposition in the Assam Assembly, Debabrata Saikia that the BJP government is trying to dilute the NRC. Congress leaders’ statements on NRC update smack of the fact that they are scared of NRC update. MP Sushmita Dev is on record saying that an updated NRC will create two types of citizens. What does such a statement smack of? The Congress that failed to start the NRC pilot project in Barpeta has no right to criticize the good efforts of the BJP government on NRC update. An updated NRC will put an end to the Congress’ politics of lure. There’s no question on the goodwill of Chief Minister Sarbanda Sonowal on NRC update. We appeal to the people of the State not to be misled by the statements being made by the Congress.”
