Observance of Martyrs’ Day at Assam Secretariat

GUWAHATI, January 31: In memory of death of the Father of tion, Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi and those who sacrificed their lives in the struggle for India’s freedom, the Government of Assam observed the Martyrs’ Day with two–minute silence along with complete halt to vehicular movement on January 30 at 11 am on the premises of Assam Secretariat, Dispur.
The day was observed with floral tributes offered at the portrait of Mahatma Gandhi by Revenue Minister Bhumidhar Barman along with other senior ministers and state government officials. The event began with blowing of siren siglling commencement of silence followed by gun salute performed by a contingent of Assam Police officials.
