GUWAHATI, Sept 5: The common public will get relief from the skyrocketing onion price only towards the mid of October. A trader in Fancy Bazaar area of Guwahati said this on Saturday.
He further informed that new production is likely to arrive in the State by October first week and it will give a relief to the public from the increasing prices. “I have been associated to onion trade since last 40 years. The price rise is a common during this time of the year,” he said.
He also added that the reason behind this year’s price rise is loss of thousands of tons of onions in Pat due to bad weather.
On being asked if he is aware of the arrival of onions being imported from Afghanistan and Greece, which the Union government announced recently, he said that he is not aware of any such arrival so far.
The prices of Onion per kg in the wholesale market on Saturday was Rs 45-50 for the Gujarat variety and Rs 57-63 for the Bangalore variety.
