GUWAHATI, July 17: Assam Apex Cooperative Fish Marketing and Processing Federation Limited (FISHFED) has gone online – set to supply fish to households in the city on online demand.

Now on people of the city need not go to fish market. They can get fish just by ordering for the protein-rich commodity online. However, as of now the facility covers only certain areas in the city. All areas in the city will be covered under the facility shortly.

FISHFED’s extension officer Arupjyoti Patgiri said: “Our motto is supply of fresh fish to the consumers. We’re trying our best to ensure the supply of fish within two hours of online order. All fresh local species of fish and some sea species will be supplied to the consumers in the city. However, at present we’ve only a limited number of sea fish species like Tu fish at our disposal. We’re trying our best to procure more species of sea fish as sea species have more demand in the city.”

FISHFED has launched an online portal (www.fishfedassam.org) through which consumers in Guwahati can place their fish orders online. “There will be no delivery charges,” Patgiri said.

As part of a pilot project, the online purchase facility is being made available for customers of areas under eight pin codes – 781001, 781003, 781005, 781006, 781022, 781028, 781032, 781038 – in the capital city from 10 am to 4 pm. “However, there will be no operation of business during government holidays. If successful, the facility will be expanded to greater Guwahati,” Patgiri said.

Besides all kinds of local fish, customers can also place orders for sea fish, salmon, octopus, crab, baby shark, tu, sardine, mackerel, frozen fish and other rare fish as per availability.

There are various modes of payments, including through cards, online banking, cash on delivery or through PoS machines which the delivery boys will carry, he said.

For bulk (above 10 kg) orders, like those for marriages and other events, the orders will have to be placed in advance and accordingly FISHFED will deliver to any destition of greater Guwahati, Patgiri added.

“The fish will be delivered to customers in properly packed ice boxes. The fish can also be sliced /dressed according to requirement of the customer. A customer will have to order a minimum of 1 kg of local fish or two kg of imported fish or half a kg of sea fish at a time,” Patgiri added.
