Opt for fast-track court in crimes against women: Women body

GUWAHATI, June 10: Members of the Brihattar Uttar Guwahati Sanmilita ri Mancha (BUGSNM) staged a dhar at Dighalipukhuripar in the city today in protest against the rising crimes against women in the State.

They raised the demand for action from the government to curb incidents like rape, molestation, domestic violence, atrocities on women, abduction of women etc. They also demanded of the government to take steps to ensure safety of women in society. They demanded capital punishment against the recent rape and murder of a teacher at Jamumukh in the State by disposing the case through a fast-track court. They also demanded setting up of a women police station in every district and subdivision in the State so as to ensure security of women. The other demands of the mancha are activating VDPs in villages, formation of police-villager committees with 50 per cent women members, glowing streets with streetlights and deployment of patrol parties at night.
