Over 500 school students miss out on scholarships

GUWAHATI, Aug 25: Following the alleged nonchalant attitude of the education department, a large number of Bengali medium school children of Kamrup (M) and Assamese medium school children under Dimoria and Pragjyotishpur Education blocks besides 75 school students of Chirang district are deprived of the Chief Minister Special Scholarship, 2015.  An office-bearer of Assam State Primary Teachers Association said that around 500 class viii students under Dimoria and Pragjyotishpur Education blocks appeared for Chief Minister Special Scholarship, 2015 examition on January 16 this year but not a single student of areas has got scholarships.  Not only that, even though a large number of Bengali medium students of class V and VIII in  Kamrup (M) district and 75 class v students of Chirang district have appeared for examition, no student got the scholarship, said the office-bearer.   Even though the District Elementary Education Officer (DEEO) announced a probe in this regard following the Assam State Primary Teachers’ Association threatened to launch protest, no findings of the investigation was revealed, he said. The teachers’ body also intimated Education Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, who has asked the authorities concerned to look into the matter.
