Over one crore collected as fine from traffic rule violators

GUWAHATI, July 13:  Strictly implementation of the drive against traffic violators has brought more Rs 1 crore to the kitty of the District Transport Office (DTO) in just three months.

The office of the Kamrup District Transport (enforcement) Office has fined from 5134 traffic violators and collected a total fine of Rs 1,33,13,038 crore from them during the period from April 1 to June 30 this year.  Out of 5134 cases of traffic violation, 5048 cases were settled by the DTO.

Earlier, the Kamrup (M) DTO realized a fine of Rs 45, 97,230 in three months. Kmarup (M) DTO Prasenjit Kr Ghosh said that compared to the same period in last fincial year, this year, over 87 lakh pelty has been collected.

The total collection of fine has increased by Rs 87, 15,806 in the first three months of the current fincial year compared to same period of last fincial year.

Sources said the high amount of fine realized from vehicles flouting norms by the enforcement wing of transport department from Kamrup district has once again has shown that a large number of people in Guwahati and its outskirts do not follow traffic rules.

Sources said that the Kamrup (M) district transport has been launching massive drive against flouting of traffic rules since 2016.

The drives were conducted at tiol highways and other city roads.

“The aim of the transport department is not only to raise the revenue. The transport department is laying emphasis on ensuring security of the travelers and trying to detect vehicles with overload which is the cause frequent accidents,” Ghosh said.
