Pandu Rest Camp going to hold 68th Durga Puja

GUWAHATI, Oct 3: Big budget is one of the prominent attributes of the Durga Puja in Guwahati. The Rest Camp Kalibari Sarbojanin Durgotsav Samiti, Pandu, which is going to hold its 68th Durga and Kalipuja this year, is one such Puja with a budget of Rs 24 lakh.

Talking to newsmen in the city today, Samiti president Ranendra Kumar Sen and general secretary Tapash ha said: “Our preparations are almost over. We’re trying our best to make the puja colourful and eventful. The festivity will get started on October 6 and come to an end on October 12.”

As though to give a glimpse of their toiling efforts to make the Durga Puja colourful and eventful, Sen and ha said: “Nilu Paul from Kolkata is the artisan we’ve hired for the making of the idols. While pandal decoration has been designed jointly by Rabi Saha and Kartik Bhattacharjee, both hailing from Bilasipara in Assam, illumition (electrification) of the pandal and the entire complex is done by Ashim Kumar Dey, hailing from Chadan gar in West Bengal.”

According to Sen and ha, the Durga Puja has other attractions as well. “Cultural functions, fairs, the release of a souvenir etc., are some of them,” they said, and added: “We’ve taken special attention to the security aspect. Besides to the security apparatus to be provided by the district administration, we’re going to deploy our own security personnel. We’re also going to install as many as 30 CCTVs so as to make security surveillance prompt and effective.”

Two other office-bearers of the Samiti, Sajal Choudhury and Amal Choudhury, were also present at the press briefing.
