Patient lodges FIR against GMCH doctor

GUWAHATI, June 2: A youth – Niranjan th hailing from Rampur in lbari district – filed an FIR at Bhangagarh police station in the city today against a GMCH doctor stating that he had got infected after an operation conducted by the doctor.

According to the FIR, th had been suffering from leg pain towards the end of 2016 and he got admission to the GMCH on February 9, 2017. His operation was conducted by an orthopedic doctor on February 11. However, after an hour of the operation the doctor referred the patient to a private hospital in the city. The doctor, according to the FIR, ignored the patient when he wanted to know as to why he had been referred to the private hospital.

“I was discharged after staying for six days in the private hospital. The doctor then called me for ten dressings in another private hospital at the rate of Rs 10,000 per dressing,” th said, and added: “After two months I saw after opening the dressing that my leg got infected. Now the GMCH has referred me to Apollo Hospital at Cheni as an ‘infected post operation case’.”

The patient demanded an inquiry into the entire incident and take action against the doctor.

GMCH Superintendent Ramen Talukdar said: “The patient did come to us with a complaint yesterday. We deputed a team for his treatment. He, however, refused to get treated here. The patient met Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma in the hospital yesterday. He informed the minister of his case. The minister asked the GMCH to take action against the doctor if he had referred the patient to a private hospital.”
