Pension of 1,000 teachers released

GUWAHATI, Sept 6: The Assam Government today released the pension of 1,000 retired teachers, following a directive from State Education Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.

The Sarbanda Sonowal-led BJP government in the State took the pledge of releasing the pension of at least 1,000 retired teachers by seventh instant of every month soon after coming to power. Going by the pledge, the government did release the pension of 2,400 retired teachers in the past two months. The minister kept his hope alive that the department would maintain the trend and release the pension of at least 1,200 retired teachers by October. He also said that eleven more employees would be appointed so as to speed up the process of releasing teachers’ pension, besides taking all measures to release the pension of at least 1,500 retired teachers every month, now on.

Meanwhile, the Education Minister discussed issues like reconstitution of secondary school magement committees at a meeting at Assam Sarba Siksha Abhiyan Mission office today. The minister asked the inspectors of schools to complete the process of formation of school magement committees within 15 days and sent them to the department with approval from the respective deputy commissioners. He hoped that the process of formation of school magement committees will be over by the first half of October this year.

In yet another meeting with SSA Mission Director Aru Rajouria and others, the minister asked them to send the remuneration of 4,000 cooks and helpers of mid-day meal in their bank accounts from October 1 this year. He also asked the officials to ensure that the cooks and helpers get their arears salaries of four months and the salary of this month by October 1.
