Platinum jubilee by Cotton College Zoology department

GUWAHATI, August 23: The Department of Zoology, Cotton College, Guwahati is set to celebrate 75 glorious years of its existence. Since inception, the Department has produced stalwarts in different fields of social, political, academic and scientific are. To mark the completion of 75 years, the Platinum Jubilee Celebration Committee of the department has taken up a year-long programme from August, 2016 to July, 2017.  The jubilee year will be celebrated in three phases. The first phase will take off on August 28 with an iugural function and a talk on popular science, an alumni meet and a cultural programme.

In the second phase, a tiol-level semir on “New Horizons in Zoological Research and Integrative Biology” and a hands-on training on basic cellular and bio-informatics techniques will be organized in November this year.

The closing ceremony will take place in July next year with the release of a souvenir and a cultural programme.  The first phase of the programme will be celebrated on August 28, 2016 at Sudmersen Hall of Cotton College. The secretary of the organizing committee Dr Ratul Rajkhowa said in a press release that the Platinum Jubilee Lecture would be delivered by Dibrugarh University Vice Chancellor Prof. Alak Kumar Buragohain. He will speak on “Of Human Brain and Mind”.  The celebration will be followed by an alumni meet and a cultural programme. All the alumni of the Department, ex-teachers, current students and well wishers are requested to be present in all the events of the jubilee, stated a press release.
