Plight of a service road in city!

GUWAHATI, April 1: Have a look at this pool of water (in the picture). There is more to this than what meets the eye. It is not a pond or any other water body. It is a road – to be precise the service road of the flyover at Jalukbari in the city. The drain being constructed near it is much higher than this road.

Vehicles ply on half of this service road. This pool of water on the road looks like a hellhole that may cost people’s lives when there are accidents. This spot is highly accident-prone. The spot is very vulnerable with the construction of the drain going in nearby.

The drain nearby this spot is also half-constructed. It looks like a dumping pit of a market that is seen teeming with grocers and buyers, besides fish and meat sellers in the evening there. The area (road) also has a number shops doing business in its side.

The shopkeepers throw garage that gets accumulated in the area during the day. While grocers doing business at the market throw garbage in the incomplete drain which is blocked in one end, fish sellers throw scales and guts of fish left out. The spot stinks and the colour of the water accumulated there is blue. The garbage includes polythene and other materials.

All this happens under the very nose of the administration. And this is the situation there for a long time. With the public in the locality taking it for granted, who will get things right there?
