Police Accountability Commission a joke: RTI activist

BY OUR STAFF REPORTER

GUWAHATI, July 20: RTI activist Dulal Bora claimed on Monday that the State Police Accountability Commission is now a nugatory body as corrupt police officials with political links now pay no heed to it.

Slamming State police chief Khagen Sharma for allegedly providing a safeguard to some corrupt officials known to be his close, Bora said that it is really unfortute that for the misdeeds of some corrupt officials, the entire department is being blamed.

Claiming that the DGP is not implementing orders of the Police Accountability Commission, Bora said, "Bamali Handique was transferred (punishment) from Chandmari police station to the CID on charges of taking bribe. However, within three months, Handique was posted again at Jagiroad police station. Did Khagen Sharma take action against Handique as instructed by the Commission?"

He further said, "The same thing happened with IPS officer And Prakash Tiwari and OC of Paltanbazar police station Rukma Borgohain. On the basis of my complaint, the commission instructed the DGP to send the two officers for counselling. But paying no heed to the orders of the commission, the DGP has instead rewarded them."
