Poll campaign begins with show of strength in Assam

GUWAHATI, Nov 15: Show of strength has already been set in motion in the poll campaign in Assam. Dispur held a huge rally for beneficiaries at Bezera in Jalukbari LAC yesterday and made it a campaign against the BJP, which too held a rally at Samaguri where it went full throttle against Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi and his Cabinet colleague Rakibul Hussain. As though to level the score, Rakibul addressed another rally at Samaguri later in the day yesterday and spoke against the BJP and Himanta Biswa Sarma. The BJP has not allowed 24 hours to elapse and held a rally at Pandu in Guwahati where a large number of Congress leaders joined to BJP today.

Speaking at the rally, BJP’s Assam in-charge Mahendra Singh said: “It’s certain that the Congress will be rooted out in Assam in 2016. The lotus will blossom in Assam now. The people of Assam have already given enough hints that the process for a change has been set in motion in the State. The Congress only creates problems and leave them unsolved.”

Guwahati MP Bijaya Chakraborty said: “People are fed up with the misrule of the Congress, which is why they have come out against the Congress. The fall of the Congress in Assam is certain.”

State BJP president Siddhartha Bhattacharyya said: “The BJP only believes in positive politics. Nobody can stop the winning flag of the BJP in Jalukbari constituency.”

Former Jalukbari MLA Himanta Biswa Sarma dared Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi and said: “If the Chief Minister has guts, let him pull a crowd of 1,000 people without giving them yarn and blankets. My relationship with Jalukbari LAC is no different from the relationship between a mother and her son. The likes of Tarun Gogoi and Rakibul will be driven away from Jalukbari the way the Ahoms drove away the Mughals from here.”
