GUWAHATI, Sept 12: Assam Minister of State for Power Pallav Lochan Das said that power would be ensured for all households in the State by 2018. The minister today paid a visit to Atal Behari Vajpayee Bhavan today when he talked to jourlists and said that he would ensure power connection to all villages by 2017. He also said that 60,000 transformers would be installed in village areas in the State.
The minister said that Assam needs 1,500MW power a day, but the domestic production of power in the State is 250MW a day. The government is taking steps to meet the demand of power in the State, he said, and added that the government laid stress on minimizing power consumption through various means. “From October this year, every government office will have to use LED bulb,” he said.
