PPFA hails HC order on Dighalipukhuri

Guwahati, Sept 21: The Patriotic People’s Front Assam (PPFA) has welcomed the recent Gauhati High Court order prohibiting protest-demonstrations on the south bank of Dighalipukhuri and appreciates the Lawyers’ Association Guwahati (LAG) for raising the pertinent issue logically and legally. The forum also urged the State government to arrange a separate place somewhere in the city for democratic exercises by various civil society and advocacy groups. Realizing the spirit of protest-demonstrations, the authority should follow the court order to find an altertive site in the stipulated period. It may be noted that the Gauhati High Court on 18 September 2017 ordered the concerned authorities not to allow holding of rally, dhar, protest, and meetings etc on the bank of historic pond after three months..
