Prab Baruah award for cartoonist

GUWAHATI, Dec 31: The first commercial cartoonist of Assam, Troilukya Dutta, will receive the Prab Baruah Shilpi Bota, 2016. The award will be given away to the cartoonist at a function to be held in the city on February 22, the birthday of artist Prab Baruah. February 22 is observed as the Rong Tulikar Din in the State every year.

The award carries a memento, a citation and Rs 25,000.

The award instituted in 2002 was received earlier by Shoba Brahma, Benu Mishra, Nilpawan Baruah, Adhya Sarma, Biren Singha, ni Borpujari, Pulok Gogoi, Jiten Hazarika and others.

Born at Ratanpur in Barpeta district on February 18, 1930, Troilukya Dutta has been in the field of art from an early. An alumnus of Gorvernment College of Art and Craft, Kolkatta, Dutta had his cartoons published in The Sentinel, the Ajir Asom and other newspapers in the State.   He had received the Bishnu Rabha Award, Sonitkonwar Gajen Baruah Shilpi Bota and Amulya Kakati Smarak Bota earlier.
