Prayers mark Christmas in city

By our Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, Dec 25: It was chilling to the bone last night and this morning. However, devotees dared the spine-chilling cold and kept on praying – from 11 pm to 12.20 am last night and from 9.30 am to 11.15 am this morning – at Christ Church, adjacent to Nehru Park at Panbazar in Guwahati. Around 300 hundred visitors thronged the church along with their family members during the day today. Boys and girls will keep singing carols till 11 tonight.

The scene at Don Bosco Church in the city is no different. Devotees were seen praying 9 pm to 10.30 pm last night and from 9 am to 10 pm today. Around 400 devotees thronged the church today.

Such prayers were seen last night and today at Baptist Church at Christianbasti in the city.

Meanwhile, demonetization has its impact on Christmas as well. The lack of cash crunch prevented many from buying what they want. The worst problem was of changes as 2,000-rupee notes have glutted the market.
