GUWAHATI, Nov 29: The Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) has rubbished BJP’s tiol general secretary Ram Madhav’s claim that the rendra Modi-led NDA government at the Centre has been able to contain prices of essential commodities.

In a statement issued to the press, APCC secretary Imdad Hussain said: “The Modi government that made people dream of ‘acche din’ has drastically failed to contain the prices of essential commodities in the country. Let alone the prices of essential commodities, the NDA government has let the prices of as many as 108 life-saving drugs skyrocket. The prices of medicines for dreaded diseases like cancer, diabetes, heart diseases, TB, AIDS, etc., have been hiked manifold after the BJP coming to power. While cancer drug Geftibte is sold at Rs. 11,500 now against Rs. 5,900 earlier, Glivec is sold at Rs. 1,08,000 against Rs. 8,500 earlier, Cardace 5mg at Rs. 128 against Rs. 92 earlier, cardiac drug Plavix is sold at Rs. 1,615 against Rs. 147 earlier, anti-biotic Moxicip-400 is sold at Rs. 399 against Rs. 250 easrlier, Taribid at Rs. 173 against Rs. 38 earlier, etc.”

This, the APCC said, has happened as the BJP has been working in the interest of corporate sectors, not of common people. “The NDA government at the Centre has withdrawn its right to fix prices so as to benefit big corporate houses and multi-tiol companies at the cost of the common people of the country,” the APCC leader said.
