Probe ordered into sale of adulterated popcorn

GUWAHATI, Oct 12: The district administration has ordered a probe into the alleged sale of adulated food items during FIFA U-17 World Cup at Sarusajai Stadium here.

Kamrup (M) DC M Angamuthu ordered a magisterial enquiry into this incident.  Accordingly Ranjit Konwar, Circle Officer Dispur, Pankaj Bora, Assistant Commissioner along with TC Das Sr Food Safety Officer and M Bhuyan Food Safety Officer conducted a detail enquiry into the incident.

Sources said mosquito coil were found in a popcorn packet sold by a vendor at Sarusajai stadium where FIFA U-17 World Cup is going on. 

 During the enquiry it was found that a firm me Standard Sweets and Caterers New Delhi was awarded the contract for selling scks during match time in the World Cup venue.

The aforesaid firm has sublet the contract to one Rahul Kumar son of Mohan Lal resident of Thakur Pukur Kolkata. Rahul Kumar further sublet it to one Bipul Saha, son of Anil Saha, a resident of Barasat Kolkata. Bipul Saha engaged one Mani Mohan Biswas of Kolkata for manufacturing, packaging and selling of popcorn in the FIFA match venue.

The enquiry team visited their packaging facility at the rented house located at Kalimandir Path opposite Hockey Stadium in Guwahati. Owner of the house is Jatin Ch Bora, Son of rayan Ch Bora.

The enquiry team collected samples of all food material for further alysis and also sealed the packaging facility for non compliance of food safety norms.
