Processed milk benefits people: WAMUL

GUWAHATI, Dec18:  West Assam Milk Producers’ Cooperative Union Ltd (WAMUL) chairman and tiol Dairy Development Board (NDDB) executive director Sangam Choudhury has said that nutrition and benefits of milk can be gained through hygienically processed and packed milk. He also laid stress on the need to spread adequate scientific knowledge about the milk people consume daily. Choudhury was speaking on the occasion of Purabi Milk Consumers’ Day on the WAMUL premises in the city today. “Milk is not only a product that human consumes. It is one of the most essential food items for wellbeing of human,” Choudhury added.

An interactive session was organized where people got opportunity to talk with milk experts and tested the samples of milk they consume regularly. People also got opportunity to visit the plant on the occasion.

Competitions like recipe contests, speech competition for students, open quiz and fun-filled events were held on the occasion. Winners were rewarded with cash prizes of Rs 50,000 for different categories of the competitions.

It needs mention that Purabi Dairy procures milk from nearly 200 village-based functiol milk producer institutions (MPIs) and dairy cooperative societies in Kamrup, Morigaon, gaon, Barpeta and lbari districts covering around 4,650 dairy farmers.
