Protesters in full-throttle at Dispur Last Gate

GUWAHATI, August 10: Employees of 108 emergency ambulance services in the State staged a dhar at Dispur Last Gate demanding regularization of their jobs. They also demanded steps for approval of GVK EMRI Service Rule by the Labour Commissioner.

Employees, including attendants, drivers and emergency medical technicians of the ambulances under the banner All Assam 108 Mritunjoy Employees’ Association, threatened the government to start cease work if their demands are not met.

They further demanded immediate reinstatement of illegally retrenched employees.

Meanwhile, the Kalita Jagosthi Sanmilan, Assam today staged protest at Dispur Last Gate demanding ST status and inclusion of the community in Sixth Schedule of the Constitution.

They are also demanding seat reservation for Kalita community in the proposed legislative council of Assam. Claiming the community as one of the aborigils of Assam, sanmilon demands reservation for the boys and girls of the community in government jobs and educatiol institutes. The Kalita community has all the qualities or the criteria to be declared as Schedule Tribe, the sanmilon claimed. The sanmilon also demands government initiative and special package for the overall development of the community.  Asha workers under the banner of Sadau Asom Asha Karmi Santha also staged a dhar in support of their demands. The workers have demanded Rs 1,000 as their monthly honorarium.

The activists of the Assam Bodo Kachari Jatiya Parishad (Asomiya Bhakhi) also staged protest today demanding the formation of a Bodo Kachari Autonomous Council.
