From our Correspondent

DIMORIA, Jan 24: Protests and demonstrations are at full throttle in the Dimoria area where crimes against women, including minors, are on the rise.

Activists of the Inter-Dimoria Regiol Students’ Union (IDRSU) and the Digaru Anchalik Mahila Suraksha Samiti today rent the air in the area demanding hanging of the culprits of the two recent ‘rape and murder’ incidents in the area. Over 200 people of both the organizations today gheraoed Sopur police station and Sopur Revenue Circle office and demanded of the police to hang the culprits of the two heineous crimes.

While a six-year-old girl was raped and killed at Jarikuchi on Jaury 18, a 19-year-old girl was also raped and murdered at Khetri on January 20.

All Assam Students’ Union (AASU) leader Dibyajyoti Medhi wants to blame it on the illegal gambling like teer and illicit liqour dens active in the area. “The six-year-old girl was rapped and murdered by four who were in an inebriated State on January 18. The killing of 19-year-old girls January 20 also has its connection with binge drinking,” Medhi said.
