Provincilize all Sanskrit tools: ASSS-SASCS

By our Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, Feb 27: The Assam Sanskrit Sahitya Sabha (ASSS) and the Sadou Asom Sanskrit Chatra Santha (SASCS) have appealed to the State Government to provincialize all Sanskrit tools of the State, besides making Sanskrit a compulsory subject at school level.

In a joint press conference at Guwahati Press Club today, ASSS working president Jayanta Mallah Baruah said: “We thank the State Education Minister for making Sanskrit a compulsory subject at school level by making a proposal in this regard in the Annual Budget this year. Sanskrit had been a compulsory subject in the schools in Assam till 1984. How come there is any objection in making that subject a compulsory one at school level afresh?”

Baruah said: “We’re going to publish a Sanskrit newspaper soon.”

ASSS vice president Rajen Barthakur said:  “If Sanskrit is made a compulsory subject in the State, besides Assamese the students of the State will also learn Sanskrit and moral lessons associated with it.”

Speaking at the press meet, SASCS president Madan Sarma said: “There’re many Sanskrit tools in the State that have not been provincialized as yet. We appeal to the State Government to provincialize all the Sanskrit tools of the State and exempt the students of examition fees. Many of the Sanskrit tools in the State don’t have the code number being issued by the Assam Sanskrit Board. Without this number, such tools cannot hold examitions. We appeal to Dispur to ensure that all Sanskrit tools in the State are given the code number.”
