Purohit lauds role of Mising community in strengthening Assamese culture

Guwahati, Feb 16: Assam Governor Banwarilal Purohit said that Assam is a treasure-trove of rich cultural heritage and the Mising community has a commendable role in enriching and strengthening the cultural landscape of the State. Ali Aye Ligang is a spring festival associated with agriculture as the celebrations of the festival serves as an inspiration to the growth of agriculture.

Speaking as the Chief Guest in the celebrations of Ali Aye Ligang organised by the Directorate of Cultural Affairs at Shilpgram in the city yesterday evening, Governor Purohit while hailing Chief Minister Sarbanda Sonowal for his initiative in setting up mghars outside the State especially in Delhi and other cities Purohit said that Srimanta Sankardev, Madhabdev are focal points of our culture as the decision to set up mghars outside the State would go a long way in spreading the parameter of cultural traits of the State. He also said that Mising culture is very rich and colourful and the people belonging to Mising community have contributed immensely towards forging a great Assamese culture.

Speaking as the Guest of Honour, Chief Minister Sarbanda Sonowal said that the colourful Assamese society is very rich in culture. The beauty of the State is reflected through the melting pot of several ethnic groups and their culture. The uniqueness of our culture needs to be projected at a greater global canvas. Culture in Assam has origited from farm land. Agriculture is the base of our civilisation. Without agriculture the completeness of Assamese culture does not bloom.

He also said that Mising people are ture loving. Srimanta Sankardev created a rich spiritual tradition which is the base of our development as the youth of our society need to work hard to catapult the development the State. Sonowal felicitated Padmashree Jadav Payeng, academician Tabu Taid, litterateur hendra Padun. Water Resources Minister Keshab Mahanta, Minister of State for Culture ba Kumar Doley, CEM of Mising Autonomous Council Rauj Pegu, Chief Minister’s Media Advisor Hrishikesh Goswami, several MLAs and a host of dignitaries were present on the occasion.
