By our Staff Reporter
GUWAHATI, Nov 11: Dr. Shubrakingkar Goswami has said that even today quack doctors have been making people believe that the leaves of peepal trees cure diabetes and a whole lot of other herbal healings that have no scientific explation. The physician was saying this at a semir on ‘Doctor: Service and the Man hiding behind the Profession’ held at the 18th Northeast Book Fair currently underway at AEI playground at Chandamari in the city.  Dr. Goswami said: “Such superstitions have no scientific explation. They make science lag behind, so does the society. The government should do something tangible to put an end to such unscientific practices.” Dr. Goswami, however, admitted that a section of doctors does advice patients to go for a lot of unnecessary tests for their persol gains. “However, still now there are doctors who render their service for the wellbeing of society,” he said. GMCH Atomy Department professor Dr. Joidev Sarma said: “There was a time when doctors were viewed with high respect. However, most of the doctors have lost that image nowadays. The government should do something that can restore the lost image of doctors.”
