Rabha groups oppose city extension plan

BY OUR STAFF REPORTER

GUWAHATI, Sept 14: The All Rabha Students’ Union (ARSU), All Rabha Women Council (ARWC), All Rabha tiol Council (ARNC), Sadou Rabha Kristi Sanmilan (SRKS) , Sixth Schedule Demand Commiittee (SSDC) and Bebak Rabha Krourang Runchum (BRKR) have strongly opposed the Guwahati metro expansion plan to the areas under Rabha Hasong Autonomous Council (RHAC) in Kamrup (rural) district.

The organizations have alleged that the State government has hatched a conspiracy to wipe out the Rabha Hasong community by including the revenue villages of RHAC in Kamrup (rural) District in Assam State Capital Region Authority Bill.

The Assam State Capital Region Authority Bill has already been tabled in the Assembly and it is likely to be discussed in the House tomorrow.  Addressing a press conference here ARSU president Ramen Singh Rabha said that Sarbanda Sonowal-led State government has included 378 villages under RHAC in Kamrup district in the Bill.

“It is a ploy to wipe out the RHAC and tribal belt and blocks. We have strongly opposed this and urged the opposition parties to counter this move of the State government,” said the ARSU president. “We have warned the BJP government to abstain from such move. If the government goes ahead with the decision, we will stop all political activities of the BJP in the RHAC areas and will ban party leaders in the council areas,” he said. SSDC president Kushadhar Rangkha said that it is a conspiracy to deprive people from sixth schedule.
