GUWAHATI, Feb 25: Lamenting that the Union rail budget have nothing new for the Northeast, the president of All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) Badaruddin Ajmal on Thursday accused the rendra Modi led Union government of deceiving the people of the region and Assam in particular.

In a tweet, the AIUDF supremo said, “Rail budget is despairing and incomprehensive. It doesn’t have anything new for the people of North East India.” (sic)

Alleging that the railway minister is trying to take accolade by announcing projects and initiatives taken by the previous governments, Ajmal said that the budget failed to keep up to the expectations of the people of the State. “What has been sanctioned today for North East was sanctioned earlier. The rail budget failed to reflect the aspirations of people,” (sic) tweeted Ajmal.

Later in the day, in a press communiqué issued by the party, Ajmal pointed out that though the railway minister didn’t hiked passenger fare in the budget, since the last budget tabled in 2015, the railways increased the fare on four occasions.

“The people were hopeful that there will be cut in the fare, but it didn’t happen. Instead, the government tried some new tactics. Overall, the rail budget is depressing for the people of Assam and Northeast,” Ajmal said in the statement.
