Ramen Kalita favours AGP-BJP tie-up

GUWAHATI, Dec 9: Some sections of AGP and BJP leaders think that the Congress in Assam may use the AGP-BJP divide on panchayat poll as a thin edge of the wedge – from the rural poll in 2018 to the Lok Sabha poll in 2019.
In a surprising yet expected line senior AGP leader  West Guwahati MLA Ramendra rtayan Kalita told newsmen in Guwahati on Saturday: “The Congress  may take the advantage of the AGP and the BJP going it alone in the panchayat poll slated for 2018. Taking that into consideration, I’ve no objection on my part if the AGP ties up with the BJP in the rural poll.”
It has been more than official that both the AGP and the BJP held their panchayat poll conventions and declared their respective stands to go it alone in the panchayat poll. However, feelings being emated from leaders of both the parties now make it crystal clear that the two coalition partners have many leaders who want tie-up between the two parties in the panchayat poll as well.
Such utterances from a section of BJP MLAs and district and mandal level leaders did come up at the recent panchayat convention of the party for tie-up with the AGP.  The question that arises now is: are the BJP and the AGP going to the fight the panchayat poll on their own against the wishes of many of their leaders?
