Record revenue for Kamrup DTO this fiscal

GUWAHATI, April 1: The office of the Kamrup district transport officer (DTO) has recorded a revenue collection worth more than Rs 110 crore in the fiscal 2014-15 which is the highest so far.

The fincial year which came to an end yesterday witnessed a collection of Rs 110 crore, which is Rs 6 crore more than the last fincial year. Last year, the collection was Rs 104 crore, while in 2012-13 it was 102.07 crore.

This year's collection as motor vehicle tax is the highest in any district in the state.

Speaking to The Sentinel, Gautam Das, DTO (registration and licensing) said, "The revenue collection was more than the previous years. We have adopted several measures to urge vehicle owners to pay taxes, including road and other taxes, on time. It's nice that people have responded positively."

The revenue collected includes road taxes and fines from traffic norm violators.

He said that it is a result of the team work. "Due to active participation of every staff members this has been possible. We are also thankful to media for helping raise awareness. We have also got tremendous support from the vehicle owners. We hope next year we will be able to collect more revenue than this year," Das added.
