GUWAHATI, Oct 24: The Hindu Yuba Chattra Parishad (HYCP) will resort to agitation if the street vendors are not rehabilitated before November 24. HYCP said this at a press meet at Guwahati Press Club today.

“We appeal to the district administration, Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC) and GMDA for rehabilitation of the street vendors before November 24, failing which we’ll stage a protest on November 30.The street vendors can be seen crowding the footpaths in almost all areas in the city. The meat shops, tea stalls, paan shops are thriving on everywhere, polluting the environment. Citizens as well the tourists find the footpaths iccessible due to the mess the vendors create,” HYCP city president Pradip Kalita said.

“We have also noticed that money collected from the vendors by a section of goons go to the pockets of a section of officials, police personnel and ministers. The outcome is citizens being affected in a big way,” Kalita added.

HYCP also expressed its concern over vendors doing business in Beltola Bazar in the city violating all rules.

HYCP city secretary Bhaskar Bejbaruah and office-bearer Biy th and others were also present in the press meet.
