“It’s expected that around 4,500 sportspersons and official representatives from Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan and SrI Lanka will participate In the Games. The preparations for the Games are going on in full swing and the sports infrastructure in Assam will be ready in time for the successful conduct of the Games. We are sparing no efforts to ensure that all athletes and officials from different countries are satisfied with the facilities and carry back with them a very positive impression about our country and the States,” Gogoi said, and added: “I would like to bring to your kind notice that the route from Guwahati Airport to Shillong is through the stretch of the tiol Highway 37 near Guwahati. Further, the Sarusajal Sports Complex at Guwahati where the opening and closing ceremonies are going to be held along with other events is located adjacent to this highway. However, the condition of this highway is not satisfactory, and is visibly in need of repairs and maintence.”

As the participants in the Games are going to frequently travel through this highway, Gogoi said, it is essential that Immediate repairs and maintence works are taken up on this road, particularly on the stretch near Guwahati so that the positive image of the Games is not possibly marred by the conditions of the highway.
