'Reservation for women in entrepreneurship, contracts soon'

GUWAHATI, Nov 19: Participating in a meeting of women Self Help Groups (SHGs) organized by the Panchayat and Rural Development department on the sidelines of tiol Integration Day at Khapara Veteriry playground on Thursday, Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi said that very soon the State government will bring reservation for women in the field of business and entrepreneurship as well as contracts to ensure more participation of women. “It was Rajib Gandhi who brought reservation for women in Panchyats, it was Indira Gandhi who stressed on tion building and eradication of poverty. My government too is following their principles and ideals,” Gogoi said adding that very soon he will bring reservation for women in government contracts and business establishment to promote participation of women in entrepreneurship. “Till 2001, there were only 8000 women SHGs in Assam. Today we have 2 lakh women SHGs alone. This proves that the State government has succeeded in increasing the participation of women in the State’s economy,” he added. The Chief Minister also iugurated an exhibition of products made by the SHGs on the occasion.
