GUWAHATI, Nov 2: Sniffing discrimition in the September 19, 2016 eviction drive conducted by the Governemnt only in Bandardubi, Deosursang and Palkhowa areas in the Kaziranga tiol Park (KNP), the Leader of the Opposition-cum CLP leader in the Assam Assembly Debabrata Saikia has requested Dispur to conduct such eviction drives in the additions as well as directed by the Gauhati High Court. In a memorandum sent to Chief Minister Sarbanda Sonowal on October 26, 2016, Saikia said: “The eviction drive carried out in the KNP following the directive of the Gauhati High Court needs to be supported. However, Dispur should conduct such eviction drives in second to sixth KNP additions, besides Bandardubi, Deosursang and Palkhowa areas, as directed by the high court, instead of carrying out eviction in some chosen and picked areas as it has created suspicions among the people of the State. Such pick-and-choose eviction drive is seen by circles concerned a political conspiracy that has been hatched to harass a section of indigenous people of the State. I hope the government will go ahead with the drive as directed by the high court, and pay compensations to the evicted Indians, besides providing schools and anganwadi centres for the education of their wards and centres for prayer.”
