GUWAHATI, May 22: Kharika Restaurant proprietor Atul Lahkar has denied the allegation made by Assam Livestock and Poultry Corporation Ltd (ALPC) chairman Manoj Saikia recently that dead broiler chicken were being served in city restaurants.  Addressing the press at Guwahati Press Club here today, Lahkar said: “The allegation is baseless. It’s not known if he is out to destroy the industry or raise it by making such statements. We need to import ducks and chicken from other States. Why has the Corporation failed to produce adequate poultry and livestock in the State? Has Saikia ever visited the ugly scene of the regulated business in Guwahati under his control?  If the regulated market of the State can provide adequate quantity of such products we’ll buy from them.”
