GUWAHATI, Jan 20: The Assam Chamber of Commerce (ACC) has demanded of State Chief Minister Sarbanda Sonowal to roll back the proposed hike in renewal certificate fees of shops under the Assam Shop and Establishment Act. In a memorandum, ACC chairman Rupam Goswami appealed to the Chief Minister to rethink the hiked fee structure. “Though the hike in fee is almost after 45 years, yet the increase is on the higher side,” the memorandum said, and added: “A businessman has to take a lot of licenses to run a business, and hence the steep hike is going to affect him…The demonetization drive has severely impacted the unorganized and small trades, and with GST coming very shortly the small and unorganized business sector is not very sure about a good fortune in the coming days.”
