Revenue Circle Officer fumed over outbursts by NGO

‘The very land where the NGO has its office is a government land in a tribal belt. Legal action has to be taken against the NGO for encroaching upon government land. No separate order is required to evict an encroacher of government land in tribal belt as there is a standing order. In order to get rid of legal action, the NGO has roped in my me with the miscreants who set their office afire on November 24’

DIMORIA, Nov 30: Many people, including the office-bearers of the Amri-Karbi Students’ Union (AKSU) and the Sopur Revenue Circle Officer, have been still feeling the heat of the November 24 conflagration that charred SP Memorial Foundation on November 24 at Moupur under Sopur police station into ashes. The post-fire outbursts on the part of the office-bearers of NGO against the AKSU and Sopur Revenue Circle Officer have made them to be really hot under the collar.

Sopur Revenue Circle officer Munindra th Ngate today refuted the allegation leveled against him by the NGO yesterday that he has a tacit understanding with the miscreants who set the NGO office afire.

Ngate today said: “The very land where the NGO has its office is a government land in a tribal belt. Legal action has to be taken against the NGO for encroaching upon government land. No separate order is required to evict an encroacher of government land in tribal belt as there is a standing order. In order to get rid of legal action, the NGO has roped in my me with the miscreants who set their office afire on November 24.”

The sharp reaction from the Revenue Circle Officer came close on the heels of NGO adviser Bishnu Prasad Baral alleged yesterday that the circle officer had been in a tacit understanding with the miscreants who set our structure afire. “Once the miscreants threatened us in front of the circle officer that they would set our structure afire,” Baral said yesterday.

The NGO also maintained that some youths who claimed themselves as members of the AKSU were behind setting the NGO structure afire.

The situation has come to a pass that the AKSU moved Sopur police station with a petition yesterday and said that that the union was not behind the fire. They, however, let the police know that the NGO has encroached upon government land in the area, and as such action should be taken against them.
