GUWAHATI, May 27: The Superintendent of River Police in the city has been directed to take necessary steps with immediate effect to keep strict vigil and night patrolling on the movement of boats – both mechanized and manual ones – from Uzan Bazar Jahajghat Point to different locations in the city.

The Kamrup (M) District Magistrate has issued such an order since a large number of ferries, including mechanized and manual boats, use to ply from Uzanbazar Jahajghat Point to different locations. There is huge gathering of general public of various antecedents, which makes it necessary to keep a strong vigil on antisocial elements ferrying from Uzanbazar Jahajghat point. For safety and security of the public it is necessary to intensify patrolling on the Brahmaputra and to keep a strict vigil on the movement of people through the waterways, feels the district magistrate.
