Rly police bs one, seizes Rs 1.60 crore

GUWAHATI, Dec 10: That Assam, especially Guwahati Railway Station, serves as the transit route for the entire Northeast and rest of the country has been proved yet again. A person bound for Howra in Kolkata with Rs 1.60 crore was caught with the hard cash at Guwahati Railway Station on Sunday. Amit Kumar Sarma, who claimed to be an the accountant of Tinsukia Development Corporation Private Ltd that has its head office at Baraba Bazar in Kolkata, was transiting the amount in his trolley bag. He hails from AT Road, Tinsukia. Sarma told the GRP that he was carrying the hard cash to their head office in Kolkata. He, however, failed to produce any documents that may prove his claim that the cash he was carrying was of the company. The cash was in 2000-rupee denomitions.

Smelling a rat, GRP personnel detained him and handed over to Income Tax Department.
