Roof of PS collapses, SI injured

GUWAHATI, April 23: Police stations in Assam are not safe shelters for policemen, let alone for accused. A policeman of Geetagar police station in Guwahati sitting in his room ended up with injuries last night when a portion of the roof overhead collapsed. If this is not mockery of police modernization in the State, what else is?

SI Haren Gogoi sustained injuries when the roof overhead collapsed and fell on him last night. He was on duty when the accident occurred. The condition of the roof was very fragile. However, it was concealed with some kind of sheets.

Police modernization in Assam continues to remain a slogan only. The Sentinel is on record bringing the plight of Geetagar Police Station to the notice of higher-ups in the Department by reporting a story recently. However, the report failed to make the department take steps to boost the condition of the police station so as to avoid accidents like the one that occurred today.

The roof of the building housing the police station is fragile, yet as many as ten police personnel have been staying on it by making rooms with bamboo works.
