Round-the-clock power supply to KNP

GUWAHATI, April 2: The Assam Power Distribution Company Ltd (APDCL) is going to execute an ambitious scheme to provide uninterrupted power supply to Kaziranga tiol Park and six other tourist destitions to end power cut woes to visitors to these places. 
Besides Kaziranga, the APDCL will implement the scheme at Kamakhya temple, Mash tiol Park, Pobitora Wildlife Sanctuary, Majuli, Sualkuchi and Tezpur. 
In order to achieve the objective, the APDCL will make substantial investments to improve and augment electrical power supply in these seven selected tourists’ destitions by constructing dedicated feeders for 24x7 power supply. The project to be implemented at an estimated cost of Rs 30 crore also aims at building quality power infrastructures to provide better service to the consumers.
The scheme is among various steps to harness the tourism potential of the State and create maximum comfort for tourists. The Assam Government has already announced setting up of six tourist police stations in Guwahati and five tiol parks - Kaziranga, Mas, Dibru Saikhowa, meri and Orang - to enhance the security of tourists visiting these places. In 2017, Dispur announced an ambitious tourism policy to increase tourist inflow by at least two to three times within next five years.
According to records available with the government altogether 37,840 foreign tourists visited the State between April 2016 and October 2017 from France, the US, Germany, Austria, Croatia, Russia, the Netherlands and other countries. The number of foreign tourists visiting the State has increased to 26,320 in 2015-16 from 20,005 in 2014-15. The figure was 19,086 in 2013-14, 17,708 in 2012-13 and 16,000 in 2011-12.
