Ruckus in job mela in city

GUWAHATI, July 26: The first day of the two-day job mela that started on Wednesday at Maniram Dewan Trade Centre, Betkuchi, Guwahati turned out to be ruckus following lack of adequate preparations on the part of the organizers.

At one point of time, the job seekers’ tempers frayed and they started to break furniture, leading to a scuffle with security personnel deployed there. Some candidates had their documents torn in the scuffle.

Under the aegis of the Department of Skill Employment and Entrepreneurship Department, Assam, the two-day Job mela was held.  In total 42 business establishments, like ITC, Sun Pharma, Ajanta Pharma, Jyothi Laboratories, Havells, Skipper, Milton, Surya Gold Cement, Bharti Airtel, Ayursundra Super Speciality Hospital, HDFC Bank, Radisson Blu, Taj Vivanta, JPA Scks etc., participated in the Mela. Youths flocked at the stalls for on-spot interviews, submission of resumes, etc.

Addressing the Mela, Minister for Skill Employment and Entrepreneurship Chandra Mohan Patowary expressed satisfaction at the positive spirit and enthusiasm of the youth and hoped that they would find their ideal jobs and excel in lives. He added that a similar Job Mela would be held in Dibrugarh in August and soon cover all districts of Assam.

Minister Patowary further stated: ‘The Employment Exchanges in Guwahati and Jorhat will be converted to Model Career Centres which will facilitate online registration and career counseling as well.’

Patowary mentioned that he would ask companies like Samsung, Havells, Tata Motors to open training institutes for mobile repairing, electronics assembling, automobile fabrication and plumber teaching respectively.  

Additiol Chief Secretary of the Department, KV Eapen, Commissioner and Secretary, Ashutosh Agnihotri, Mission Director, AP Tiwari, and Director, Employment & Craftsmen Training, Ritu Raj Bora were present in the programme.
